Manifesto-writing, core values
This is a rewrite and update of my previous manifesto, from about a year ago to the date. Not true. I have a few newer drafts since Jan. 20, 2010, in April and May, I don't remember if I did them for STAC or not.
These are things from previous statements that still are part of me.
Core Values
Comfort
Movement, Same and Changing, and the Repetition of
The Marriage of Art and Science
Opposites, and thus, whatever is in between the opposites
Issues
Order
Simplicity
Grids and Arranged Squares
Alone vs. Lonely
This is a lot of things that just lead to a Manifest for my Art.
(This is a very rough draft.)
my art is like a grid of squares, each with a neat little scribble in it, squiggling around in each squared, contained clutter
be nice, be thankful, hold doors open, be polite, be the best
no, really, be the best. Don't just win. Make sure the other team will never win again. It's sick sick reality. And it shouldn't be that way.
There's reality, right there, and you passed it.
Too busy following the to-do list. I forgot what I had to do.
There is a very important difference between 'alone' and 'lonely'
Simplicity often goes under-appreciated. be sparing, straightforward. It often communicates better.
Follow a half-formed idea to the end of the rainbow.
Art and science are very close, and need to be taught together. All disciplines benefit from learning aspects of the other.
Never stop reading, never stop writing.
Listen, and you could hear something great. Write it down, and you have it forever.
it
It can mean a lot to notice someone having a watch from the same company, or someone in my generation having a watch at all.
It means a lot when someone spells my name right, or when they make up their own interpretation.
It excites me when the world loops around to the same point, when life repeats.
these are some drawings
I believe some of the colors have been changed a little from the original scan, because photoshop tends to screw with jpegs.
The first is a combination of the words 'science' and 'art', in friendly bubble letters, colored with crayons. It's also a practice in translucency, which I think worked out decently well considering I used yellow and blue (which have drastic intensity/value differences).
The second is.... it's like when someone is talking, and you're not really listening, but you just nod? This is what I thought the writing version of that is. I figured that out while I was doing it, because I realized it was like writing without paying attention to anything. It's like someone in a movie pretending they know sign language, and flailing/gesturing so that it looks like sign language, but it's still ishkabibble.
As a note for the future, this is my first time using a scanner at Pratt (my scanner/printer/fax/copier was too bulky for my room), and it's rather lovely. It also makes R2D2 sounds.

write
I am writing because I have nothing to write about. I am writing about a shelving unit made of tin, cookie tins stacked on top of each other, the open sides facing outward like a bookshelf. I am writing about a cold room that is getting warmer. I am writing about painting my face, with a bar of silver from ear to ear and across my eyes. I am writing about a black grid on white paper, with scribbles neatly inside each square. I will paint it.

bring in the new year with Fleet Foxes
Somehow managed a nice, round number for 2010 posts, but it's not anything like 2009 posts. This marks almost the third year of this blog.
2010.
What happened last year:
I got into Pratt, New Paltz, and Purchase, waitlisted to CalArts, decided on Pratt, graduated Herricks High School.
I started college and did well in my first semester.
I started playing Maplestory.
I love my overgrown puppy.
Movies.
I started listening to more alternative and indie music.
I also noticed that I've said a lot of things like, "I want to ____," and I never get around to them. I shouldn't say, "I want to do all the things I want to do", because that's like running around in a circle to try to make a tornado. So maybe I should just do things, rather than spending too long trying to think about priorities of things and orders of things.
Start of another year.
What a life I lead in the summer, What a life I lead in the spring,
What a life I lead in the winded breeze, What a life I lead in the spring.
What a life I lead when the sun breaks free as a giant torn from the clouds,
What a life indeed when that ancient seed is a berry watered and plowed.
What a life, What a life, What a life, What a life.
What a life I lead in the summer, What a life I lead in the spring,
What a life I lead in the winded breeze, What a life I lead in the spring.

Left Foot.
This was 2 hours last week. Figure drawing and spacial analysis.
This is, literally, the hardest angle to draw your foot as.
Because:
My toes actually face the outside, since the toes are smaller as they come towards you, it is harder to understand the angle by what's in front of other things. The ankle is also not at a totally correct angle in relation to the heel, which basically looks the same from a number of angles. This piece did drive me a little crazy.
