these are some drawings

I believe some of the colors have been changed a little from the original scan, because photoshop tends to screw with jpegs.

The first is a combination of the words 'science' and 'art', in friendly bubble letters, colored with crayons. It's also a practice in translucency, which I think worked out decently well considering I used yellow and blue (which have drastic intensity/value differences).
The second is.... it's like when someone is talking, and you're not really listening, but you just nod? This is what I thought the writing version of that is. I figured that out while I was doing it, because I realized it was like writing without paying attention to anything. It's like someone in a movie pretending they know sign language, and flailing/gesturing so that it looks like sign language, but it's still ishkabibble.

As a note for the future, this is my first time using a scanner at Pratt (my scanner/printer/fax/copier was too bulky for my room), and it's rather lovely. It also makes R2D2 sounds.

WALL-E soundtrack.

Graduation. Shit man.

I went to the blood drive Friday, and I almost fainted, and it was scary. I get scared when my body is doing something I didn't tell it to.

I've started MapleStory. Sorry, world.

So on monday, I need to have
a first draft for the Turn of the Screw paper,
a final draft of my myth, which needs to be completed, renamed, and I need to look up things on TVtropes for story/characterization
a final manifesto, which I will put up, which will NOT be about being too harsh on myself

Getting things done day.

1. I painted more of the cow today. I'm making a cow. Out of foam-core. It may be my 'individual project', but I seem to have a lot of those.

2. Myth, my final for Mythology class. I'm writing sci-fi, because I would love to get an idea out of my head. I've been writing down the history of the future, a history of the protagonist's world. Or the opposite of history? Using historical patterns to create a fantasy future. It's fun.

3. Quest Project, Animation. I need a camera to actually take pictures of the frames when I'm done. But I have a  lot to do to lead up to 12-15 seconds. Basic characters, storyboard, exposure sheet, stuff that's unnecessary but I need to show something.

4. Health Project. A month to make a Powerpoint or Photo-story of the curriculum. Not bad.

5. Manifesto, another draft

6. Biography. Eat right through the book, write scenes, go through major editing.

Metropolis.

I'm a little obsessed with Metropolis. We watched it in stac last year, and I finally got to see it again: Huntington Cultural Arts Center showing of the reedited 152 minute long final film. With a live organist. An organist. It's not easy for me to sit through anything, but there's something about Metropolis (and maybe all silent films, I don't know) that allows me to think. I need to figure out the plot, because text-cards are not common. I like a movie that gives me time to think, and gives me a lot to think about.

This is the evil scientist Rotwang in his evil science laboratory. Next, he's showing the machine-man (robot) to Joh Fredersen, the Brain and father of Freder, the passionate protagonist (and the Heart). Freder is seen below, holding a fallen worker (11811 Georgy is his name). He takes the worker's place. Workers are the Hands. I want to be a mad scientist too, someday.

not about dr. horrible.

So what keeps you up at night? What's out there, in the dark, waiting for you? Why go to bed with a flashlight when there's a blackout?

Zombies. That's what. Reanimated, blood-hungry zombies. I'm ashamed to have had a nightmare about zombies, but being trapped in a children's therapy hospital, which turned into an island later when we had to get off it, and then not having a weapon, and not knowing who on your side may eat you, is f'in' scary. There's a definite curse in having vivid, overly-imaginative dreams.

And, a slightly related topic: Bioshock. I'm in love with and terrified of this game. I don't call myself a gamer- this is my first first-person shooter- and I'm still working out how to aim. But the graphics are beautiful, and the storyline is told in pre-recorded audio tracks. Where that ever be seen again?

design prattle

So, I like the yellow. It isn't oppressive, and the reds and browns are nice. I'll keep it a while.
I'm sending in my Pratt portfolio tonight. And the Purchase portfolio (same exact thing, but due next month).

I've finished Treasure Island, and I'm convinced pirates beat ninjas any day of the week. I need to see Treasure Planet and the muppet version and other movie versions.
The first song of Rocky Horror is made of scifi movie references, and I want to see all of them.

AVATAR.
Well. Epic adventure, athropologist's dream, mythic story, scifi. Plus a god-beautiful planet.
I couldn't keep track of the character's names, so I called them 'Pocahontas' and 'Kocoum' and 'Priestess'.
I loved the culture of the movie. The blue cat-people, the Na'vi, worship the great tree and goddess Eywa. The army people 'worship' the Major, the father. And Protagonist is in between. I honestly wished the PG-13 rating wouldn't filter out normal things that would have happened: the women don't all have conveniently-placed beads, guns shoot people.

I do feel a bit bad that I saw a scifi epic before a disney princess movie.

Colleges have all been applied to. PiG paper is done. Portfolio is almost done. I'll have a driver's license in the next couple of months. I'll have my grandpa's old car, too. All I need to do is pass Health.

all I want is to have some peace of mind.

Listening to Peace of Mind, Boston, over and over again. The whole house has been singing it since this morning.  We even did Axel Rose covers. Best voice to imitate.

For the last two nights, I watched Alice on SciFi (screw the name change). It reminded me how much I needed to read the original Wonderland stories. Last year, SciFi did a similar change to Wizard of Oz, called Tin Man. Both stories were changed with central plots around technology, running a nation, and family relationships. It's like having two movies made by the same crew. Everything is so similar.
I don't know who designed Tin Man and Alice, but I like it. Something is a little too modern, a little too budget-tight. It was do-able. Except for a forest, general setting, lighting, facial hair, and a considerable amount of basic sewing. And I totally disagree with a lot of the plot and characters, but I like it. Some things explained too much, some things never are mentioned again, and sometimes, badassery ensues.

Self-portrait, used a mirror, I need to do something in art class before I implode. It took up a whole page, and I didn't crop it here.

I think my next project will definitely involve the Queen of Hearts. Not Alice, just the Queen and her minions.

I've been getting into cardboard. Today, I found a cardboard piece shaped like a life-size R2D2, which means I will be painting, in neon. I would love to have a glow-in-the-dark painting.

I also am collecting cardboard for a bigger project, a full suit of armor, made of cardboard. I hope I can get a trip to the Met Museum to take notes on armor. I've always loved knights and cardboard is cheap. I'll make plans, do research, and start after the children's show.

In my research thusfar, I have found The Cardboard Tube Fighting League. The world is a better place because this exists.
